Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is energy that is derived from naturally renewable resources. These resources are replenished at rates that are equal to or faster than the rate at which they are consumed.

There are various forms of renewable energy such as derived directly or indirectly from the sun or wind, or from heat generated deep within the earth. Specifically, they are energy from solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydropower and ocean resources. Renewable energy produces little to no greenhouse gas emissions and reduces some types of air pollution. Diversifying energy supply through the use of renewables will minimise the dependence on imported fuels.

The following alternative sources of energy will be investigated by a new faculty member who will replace the SaskPower Clean Energy Research Chair in the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science.
