Energy Storage
Energy storage system is used to store electrical energy in a more convenient, economic and practical storable form. The storage system is very important and needs to be fully developed to accommodate a near future low or zero emission economy where difficult to store renewable energy becomes available.
Energy produced specifically from renewable sources such as wind, solar, and hydrogen (e.g. from fuel cells) with their supply fluctuating with time will definitely need a very effective storage system. This is to make sure that the industry and community have a continuous supply of power without interruption.
Under the SaskPower Clean Energy Chair Research program, an in-depth research and study to determine the current state of technology in this area is being carried out. This is intended to find gaps within the technology that need to be filled to help improve the energy storage system so that it can be deployed for use together with other clean energy technologies.
